Downloads: Be Patient!
Our MP3 downloads are encoded at 320 kbps, the highest quality permitted by the MP3 format. Why does this matter to you? Because you're buying liturgical music, not rock and roll, and so compression and sampling rates matter to minimize loss and degradation of sound fidelity.

Original CDs are encoded at 1,020 kilobits/sec, and most download stores sell files at 128 kbs-one tenth the quality of the original. Higher sampling rates make for bigger files and longer download times, but the higher quality is well worth it-you'll hear the difference!

Title:  Liturgica.com Review
Rating:
Review:   This is certainly one of the most authentic recordings of the Divine Liturgy available if only because it is a recording of the entire service, including the celebrant's prayers, chanted by an ensemble that specializes in unique presentations of authentic Byzantine chant. The Romeiko Ensemble, under the direction of Yorgos Bilalis (who previously chanted with Angelopoulos' Byzantine Choir) is well known for its very high quality and authentic renditions of Byzantine chant, particularly that from medieval manuscripts. The result of bringing this approach and experience to the singing of the Divine Liturgy is superb: the sound is wondrous, the performance is both devotional and tight, and the quality of the recording is clear and resonant. This is a live recording, and the sound quality of the Athenian church in which it was recorded is superb. The ensemble is composed of singers with excellent voices that perfectly compliment each other, and the liturgy is chanted with an additional six voices singing ison. In addition the celebrants voices are very good and compliment that of the choir. The result is uplifting, moving and gorgeous. I don't think there is a better recording of the Divine Liturgy when you combine quality, sound and completeness of the service! Fr. Apostolos Hill has this to say: "This recording of the Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom is perhaps the finest such recording yet produced. The Romeiko Ensemble's dedication to their craft is apparent throughout. Most importantly, this recording is the complete recording of the Liturgy inclusive of the ektenias and the prayers of the celebrant. As such it provides the context of worship often lacking on other similar recordings. Both beautiful and prayerful, this recording is a must-have for any serious lover of Byzantine music."
